Comic Book Printing & Specs

Creating a comic book is a work of art. The creative first starts with a story, from there you must decide, will the inside pages of my comic book be black & white with a full colour cover or do I want to have it printed in full colour throughout. You must decide on a finished page size and page count. From there the creative illustrations for the story begin for the inside pages, once this is done, you can now get creative with your cover design based on the story.

The following comic book information and specs will help in preparing your comic book into a print-ready file for Island Blue’s book printing brand Printorium Bookworks.

SIZE & BINDING DETAILS

Most standard comic books are printed full bleed with a finished folded size of 6 5/8” x 7 ¼”. Custom sizes from 5 1/2” x 8 ½” up to 8 ½” x 11” can be accommodated. Folded comic books are stitched 2 places in the middle of the fold sheet (saddle stitched) using wire (not staples), edge trimmed and finished with a square spine, similar to the spine of a soft cover book.

 

PAGE COUNT

Comic book page counts are based on multiples of 4. The minimum page count is 8 while the maximum page count is 72 pages including cover. When requesting a printing quote, specify the number of interior pages and whether the cover is printed single or double sided. The page count and quantity determine the print price.

QUANTITY

You can print as few as 12 comics or as many as you plan to sell. Print only what you need or have sold. Remember you will need extra copies for family and friends. Should you need an additional reprint, we simply recall your digital file, print the quantity requested and ship quickly only at the price quoted, plus freight.

 

SUPPLYING PRINT-READY FILES

The best way to submit your file is in Adobe PDF format.

Try to name your print files in a logical fashion for printing. Don’t call it “book”. Stick to names that make sense to people who are not familiar with how you've organized your document; i.e. ABC_comic_cover and ABC_comic_insides.

If you are sending new or replacement files, name them with a version number at the end of the file name, i.e. ABC_comic_cover_V2.

FEE STRUCTURE

Printorium Bookworks does not charge big package pricing; we are a book printer. You sign no contract with us and you print only the quantity of books you need. We will prepare a quote on your comic book printing requirements - to request a quote you can come see us in person, call us on the telephone (our number is listed at the bottom of this page), or complete the Request for Estimate online form.

 

PRICING (HOW MUCH is the COMIC BOOK GOING to COST)

Pricing depends on a number of factors. Final pricing is based on the type of comic book printing required; if it's black & white or colour, the finished size and the total number of pages in the book and type of paper requested.

We don't want you to have any surprises - you will be supplied with a written quotation before we start so you're comfortable with the bottom line. Volume discounts are offered on larger quantities, but remember - you only need to print what you need or have sold.

Sometimes there is an overrun of a few extras of your book, we generally add them to your order at the same unit price as the quantity you requested. Alternatively, we may end up a few short and we'll credit your order accordingly so you don't pay for what isn't received.

 

COMIC BOOK SETUP and PROOFING FEE

With every new comic book printing job, we charge a nominal set-up and proofing fee; the amount will depend on the type of book you will be printing and the type of file supplied to us.

Upon proofing your book, if you decide you want to submit another file, you will be charged another proofing fee. The setup and proofing fee includes the cost of printing one book and integrating your file into our digital library for future re-prints.

 

REORDERING YOUR COMIC BOOK

We try to make reordering your comic book as quick and easy as possible. Once you have approved your proof copy, we store your “approved” file in our digital archive. When you need additional copies printed from the same file, just give us a call, or send an email to your sales representative. Please note that book printing prices are subject to change, so we will always try to give you a price quote before your book is reprinted.

Please note that if you wish to submit new files for your reprint, the setup and proofing fee(s) will be applicable again and we will prepare and ship a new proof copy for you before proceeding with additional copies.

 

TURNAROUND TIME

Printing and delivery of your comics depends on the quantity and the time you take in proofing your book. With clean files, we ship a proof in approximately 4 working days. Upon approval of your proof, the final order of up to 100 books is printed and shipped in 5 working days. Larger orders take an additional 24 hours per each 100 books.

 

SHIPPING
All proofs are shipped Canada Post. All book orders depending on quantity are shipped via Canada Post, FedEx (Canada & USA) and Maximum Express. We always check for the most economical way to ship or find the courier who will meet your deadline. If required, during the quoting process we can give you an approximate shipping cost.

 

PAYMENT

Before we proceed with any book printing request we require a 50% deposit to be made at the time of order. The balance (50% plus all shipping costs) will be due prior to shipping the books to you.

We accept payment in cash, cheque, Debit Card, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.

For established publishing companies in Canada doing business more than ten years we do offer credit terms. An Island Blue Print Co. Ltd. (parent company) Credit Application must be filled out and submitted for approval and a maximum credit limit will be established. Please allow 5 working days for credit approval to be obtained.
