Fee Structure
Printorium Bookworks does not charge big package pricing; we are a book printer. You sign no contract with us and you print only the quantity of books you need. We will prepare a quote on your book printing requirements. Request a quote in person, by telephone, or complete the email us for a quotation.
Setup And Proofing Fee
With every new book printing job, we charge a nominal set-up and proofing fee; the amount will depend on the type of book you will be printing and the type of file supplied to us. When we must spend extra time fixing your file, an additional cost will be charged to create print ready files. We never do extra file prep without giving you a written quotation as to the extra amount we must charge to arrive at a print ready file. Upon proofing your book, if you decide you want to submit another file, you will be charged another proofing fee. The setup and proofing fee includes the cost of printing one book and integrating your file into our digital library for future re-prints.
Book Pricing
Our pricing is based on the type of book printing required; black & white, colour, soft or hardcover, the finished size and the total number of pages in the book. We offer three groups of trim sizes for both black & white and colour books. See page eight for trim sizes. Before we proceed with any book printing request you are supplied with a written quotation. Volume discounts are offered on larger quantities, but remember, print only what you need or have sold.
Payment
Before we proceed with any book printing request we require a 50% deposit to be made at the time of order. The balance (50% shipping costs) will be due prior to shipping the books to you. We accept payment in cash, cheque, Debit Card, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. For established publishing companies in Canada doing business more than ten years we do offer credit terms. An Island Blue Print Co. Ltd. (parent company) credit application must be filled out and submitted for approval. A maximum credit limit will be established.
File Types
Authors and publishers are required to provide Adobe PDF files for book printing, thus paying the minimal charge for the setup and proofing fee. All other (native) files will be charged a higher proofing fee and may be subject to additional file prep fees. Files need to be fully designed, formatted and submitted as ready-to-print PDF files with all fonts and images embedded.
How To Send Files To Printorium Bookworks
You can send files in one of three ways:
- By email attachment to printoriuminfo@printoriumbookworks.com only if the combined file size is less than 5 MB.
- By ftp directly to our server at ftp.islandblue.com. Use a login name of "anonymous"; a password is not required. Please send a confirmation email, stating you have placed your file on the ftp site.
- A CD or DVD can be mailed or dropped off in person to:911 Fort Street, Victoria, BC, V8V 3K3.
Scanning From Hardcopy Books
Out-of-print books can be economically brought back to life using the latest scan and print technologies. By simply removing the cover and trimming the glued spine, the cover is scanned in colour and cleaned up in Photoshop to create a near copy of the original version. Inside pages are scanned and checked for straightness and any unnecessary blemishes are removed. What better way to test market out-of-print books with the minimum of investment.
Work Flow Timelines
After receiving and reviewing your digital file for print ready accuracy, we prepare and ship a proof copy within five business days. Any file prep required adds additional days before we can ship a proof. After you have carefully reviewed your proof and sent back an approval to proceed to print, orders of up to one hundred books are printed and shipped in four to five business days. For orders of over one hundred books, add one additional business day to the order for every one hundred books.
Approving Your Proof
Your proof copy along with a "Proof Approval" form will be sent to you via XPress Post. If both the production quality and your supplied text layout is approved (i.e. you don’t need to make any editorial or formatting changes) we ask you to send back the signed proof approval form to us. If you wish to submit a new file, we will need to charge the setup and proofing fee again along with shipping costs because we’ll send you another proof copy. If you reject the proof based on an error made on our end, you will not be charged for an additional proof.
